Bushfire Response and Recovery Spatial Data Coordination
The 2019/2020 bushfire season in Victoria has been extremely challenging and there is a need to provide a rapid and robust response to requests for spatial data to assist with recovery efforts.
The Victorian state government are working with DELWP to ensure that all stakeholders can easily access authoritative spatial data sets to assist with bushfire response and recovery.

Spatial Datamart lets you view the available spatial information and request datasets for your mapping solution.
Vicmap™ is the foundation that underlies most spatial information in Victoria. This portfolio of spatial related authoritative data products, made up from individual datasets, is developed and managed by the Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning. The information provides the foundation to Victoria’s primary mapping and spatial information systems, and is used for building business information and systems.
Vicmap is a registered trademark of the Victorian Government and is synonymous with authoritative statewide mapping since 1975.

The Catalogue published annually includes:
- information about the products - themes and source datasets
- case studies of how each product may be used
- access options
- technical detail such as coverage and currency.

Vicmap Foundation Products
Vicmap Address is Victoria's authoritative geocoded database of property address points for the State. The product includes predominately, but not exclusively locational property address identifiers assigned by Local Government, considered to be the primary creator and Custodian of property addresses. Additional, where accessible, other 'real life' property addresses created and used by the community, (but not recognised by Local Government) including retirement villages, assisted care facilities, industrial, alpine resorts and public housing estates etc.
Vicmap Address can be used to map the location of addressed assets or to verify the content of business address data.
Point addresses consist of:
- Street number, street name
- Cross reference to Local Government
- Post code and State
- Cross reference to Vicmap Property
- Census District Attribute.

Vicmap Admin consists of topologically structured polygons that depict legal land descriptions for Victoria’s political and administrative boundaries. Includes:
- Local Government Area boundaries and names
- Locality boundaries and names
- Postcode boundaries and numbers
- State Electoral boundaries and names
- Local Government Ward boundaries and names
- Parish and Township boundaries and names
- State Government departmental boundaries and names.
Vicmap Admin can be used to aggregate information for analytical purposes and analyse time series trends. Administrative boundary data in combination with geo-coded address data, demographic information and specific business information enables the ability to perform high quality spatial analysis.

Vicmap Crown Land Tenure assists users to manage their interaction with Victoria's Crown land by providing information about the private use of Crown land and government roads. It is the only Crown Land Tenure layer available through the Department, which will assist these customers planning, evaluating and managing their own assets in relation to Crown land, roads and reserves. Key customers include resource and mining companies, water businesses and councils.
Vicmap Crown Land Tenure plays a key role in the management of Victoria's Crown land.
The product provides information about the private use of Crown land parcels and Crown roads.
The product includes land use licences such as:
- grazing, water frontage and unused road licences
- leases for commercial purposes
- general or miscellaneous licences, permits and consents
- pipeline and Water Supply licences
- reserve management – land gazetted or set aside for a specific use.

Elevation data assists with terrain analysis and land assessment by providing contour and relief information. DELWP provides statewide digital representation of Victoria's terrain surface. This elevation information combined with customer business information enables more efficient and effective planning of landscape sensitivity, catchments modelling and habitat suitability. Vicmap Elevation consists of several elevation datasets.

Vicmap Elevation - Multi-Res DEM & Contours
Vicmap Features of Interest is a topologically structured digital dataset covering the state of Victoria and describing features of interest, their location and names. Examples of features includes, but not limited to: education centres, reserves, emergency facilities and landmarks. VMFoI has a large range of applications, including asset management, location based services, logistics management and map production.

Vicmap Hydro is a topologically structured digital data set depicting Victoria’s natural and man made water resources including selected water related structures and coastal navigational features. Vicmap Hydro can be used in a variety of applications including, protection and conservation analyses for natural resources, impact assessment, monitoring and land analysis.
Vicmap Hydro is available under a Creative Commons license.
Our aerial photography can improve your assessment of the landscape helping with bushfire risk management, property developing and flood mapping. Vicmap Imagery is Victoria’s most up to date aerial photography resource.
The imagery has been obtained from various projects over the State with most through the Coordinated Imagery Program.
You can find historic aerial photography from the 1930's to 1990's on the LANDATA website or you can access the historic aerial photography library at Land Use Victoria’s aerial photography storage facility.

Victoria's planning scheme map information.
Each planning scheme contains:
Zones, which indicate the type of land uses that may be appropriate in that zone, such as residential, industrial or rural.
Overlay controls, which reflect specific characteristics of land in an area i.e. significant vegetation or heritage values.

Vicmap Transport was created in 2000 and provides an accurate representation of Victoria’s statewide road, rail and airport assets. It is used in a variety of applications, particularly in emergency services, route management, logistics planning and development.

Vicmap Vegetation contains topologically structured digital datasets (tree density and plantations) depicting areas of tree or woody cover across the State of Victoria.
Vicmap Vegetation assists users in emergency, environmental management and map production. Key users are utilities, environmental managers, local government, cartographers and emergency services organisations.

Our IUF feed allows for fast updates with files that contain only the changed information, rather than entire revised datasets. IUF is ideal for regular customers and automated systems.
Vicmap IUF data is available under a Creative Commons license.
Vicmap Lite is a generalised statewide, seamless product for web and smart device developers, cartographers, GIS users and analysts, marketers and report producers. It is ideal for web mapping, navigational devices and hard copy cartographic products.
The product is designed for use between 1:250,000 and 1:5,000,000 scales.
It is easy to use, fast to load and small in size.
Vicmap Lite is available under a Creative Commons license.
Reference tables are used to support Vicmap data. They may list the full name, description and other attributes associated with a feature code or identifier. For example, the 'PARISH' Reference Table includes the identifier, name and status of each Parish in Victoria.

Geomark includes the named topographic features that are found in Vicmap Elevation, Vicmap Hydro, Vicmap Features of Interest and Vicmap Transport. A 'named feature' is something which has a recognised name such as the Murray River. It also includes features which 'could be named'.
In the Geomark dataset, geometries are modified to be consistent. For example, the Yarra River in Vicmap Hydro is stored as many individual line segments whereas in Geomark it is represented as a single line.
